The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) decided to maintain the cash rate and the yield on 3-year Australian Government bonds at 0.1% (figure 1). The RBA will not increase its cash rate target until full employment is within reach and inflation sustainably stays within the 2%-3% target band.

Note from Publisher
Very soon, we will welcome 2025. The calendar was devised by man to organise time for social, religious, commercial or administrative purposes. However, a new year does not mean a complete break from the preceding one. In fact, many developments in 2025 will be the consequences of events in 2024 and before. Given the recent developments in Europe and the Middle East, geopolitical uncertainty is likely to be a global focus in 2025, with significant implications on the financial markets.

The situation could be made worse by the fact that Donald Trump will become US president next year. Fear not, i Capital will continue to be a trusted and reliable adviser to its thousands of subscribers during an anticipated topsy turvy 2025. It is committed to keep its sound, thorough and objective research and analysis - standards it has maintained since the first issue in Sep 1989.

i Capital will pause its publication for one issue in the week beginning 23 Dec. However, www.icapital.biz will be updated as usual and the operating hours of our Kuala Lumpur office will remain unchanged. Volume 36, number 20 of i Capital will henceforth be dated 2 - 8 Jan 2025.
